Ozark Airlines was granted its DOT certificate in August 1999 and its FAA certificate followed in February 2000. The airlines founder bought the Ozark name from TWA. Operation began on February 21, 2000 between Colombia and Chicago Midway. Other routes followed. Early in 2001, the airline was sold to Great Plains Airlines Holding Co. and the name of the airline was changed to Great Plains Airlines. New service was added. Great Plains filed for bankruptcy and suspended operations on January 23, 2004. Engine prolems on their 328JETs and weak traffic were given as the reasons for it financial difficulties.
